A few months ago, I wrote an open letter to ISIS after the tragedy in Manchester. Last week, they struck again in Barcelona. These vicious creatures have a special place in hell reserved for them.

Growing up, I was 15 minutes outside of Philadelphia. While I worked toward my Bachelor’s Degree, and even once I secured my first teaching position, I was 15 minutes outside of Baltimore. Having all of the comforts of suburbia and also the conveniences of a bustling city was what I was used to; it was all I knew. Traveling to Greece is always very exhilarating. After all, it is one of the most dynamic countries in Europe with its gorgeous beaches, rich ancient history, and myriad of attractions. In Greece, you can climb to the summit of Mount Profitis Ilias, hike an active volcano, ride a donkey up the side of a cliff, visit a waterfront winery, and jump off a ship and swim to a hot spring all in ONE day! The next day, why not visit Akrotiri and Red Beach? Or tour the Acropolis and explore its extensive museum? However, before you make your way to this one-of-a-kind country, there are a few things to be aware of prior to arrival…
5 Things You Should Know Before Traveling to Greece:
For eighteen and a half years I lived in the suburbs of southern New Jersey, just 15 minutes outside of the great, historic city of Philadelphia. I attended elementary, middle, and high school there. I earned my driver’s license and bought my first (and second) car there. I danced the night away at three different proms there. I rooted for the Yankees while the rest of town rooted for the Phillies there. My entire childhood is encapsulated there.
For eighteen and a half years, south jersey was home.
We’ve all been there— you know, that moment when you’re looking forward to your upcoming trip to Europe, counting down the days and thinking about the excursions you want to enjoy— but then it hits you.
